GENERAL TILE QUESTIONS

What is the difference between porcelain and ceramic tile?
Porcelain and ceramic tiles are both made from clay and fired at high temperatures, but porcelain tile is more dense and water-resistant. Porcelain is a better choice for high-traffic areas, while ceramic tile is suitable for low-traffic areas and walls.

What kind of tile is best for high-traffic areas?
Porcelain tile is the best choice for high-traffic areas because it is more durable and less prone to chipping or scratching. It is also more water-resistant than ceramic tile.

How do I properly maintain and clean my tile?
Use a pH-neutral cleaner and a soft mop or cloth to clean your tile regularly. Avoid using abrasive or acidic cleaners that can damage the tile. For tough stains, you can use a 50-50 mixture of white vinegar and water or a specialized tile cleaner.

Can I install tile over my existing flooring?
In most cases, you can install tile over existing flooring as long as it is in good condition and level. However, some types of flooring, such as carpet, may need to be removed before installing tile.

What is the typical lifespan of tile?
Tile is a long-lasting material that can last for several decades with proper maintenance. However, the lifespan of tile can depend on factors such as the quality of the installation, the type of tile, and the amount of foot traffic it receives.

How do I calculate how much tile I need for my project?
Measure the length and width (in feet) of the area you want to tile, and multiply those numbers to get the total square footage. Then, add 10-20% extra to account for waste, cuts, and future repairs.

What is the average cost of tile installation?
The cost of tile installation can vary depending on factors such as the type of tile, the complexity of the installation, and the location. On average, the cost can range from $5 to $15 per square foot.

What are the benefits of using tile in my home?
Tile is a versatile and durable material that is ideal for a wide range of applications. It is water-resistant, stain-resistant, and easy to clean, making it ideal for use in bathrooms, kitchens, and other high-moisture areas. Tile also comes in a variety of colors, patterns, and textures, allowing you to customize your space.

How long does it take for tile to be installed?
The installation time for tile can vary depending on factors such as the size of the area, the complexity of the design, and the type of tile. On average, it can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to complete a tile installation project. Ask your contractor for a more accurate estimated installation time.

What kind of tile is best for a bathroom?
Porcelain or ceramic tile are both good choices for a bathroom because they are water-resistant, durable, and easy to clean. Large format tiles can also help to create a sleek and modern look.
